Two deadly shootings across California in three days; action needs to be taken!

A shocking turn of events has occurred in California over the past week, leaving the nation distraught and confused. On Saturday, which was Lunar New Year’s eve, a 72-year-old man entered Monterey Park Dance studio and opened fire, killing 10 people and injuring 10. In a separate attack which occurred Monday, Seven people were tragically killed in another mass shooting, the second across the state in three days.

The first attack on Saturday included Hemet resident Huu Can Tran, who later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motives are still unclear, as authorities are investigating the horrific scenes. Tran entered the dance studio on West Garvey Avenue around 10:20 pm where he opened fire and took 10 lives. The studio is located near where thousands were due to start the Lunar New Year celebrations on Sunday. A local resident stated that “this kind of thing doesn’t happen in this neighborhood”, which has sparked major concerns of increasing violence. - LA Times

Around 20 minutes after the initial shooting at the dance studio, Tran walked into Lai Lai Ballroom & Studio in nearby Alhambra but before he could take any more lives, two community members managed to disarm him before he ran away. The weapon in Tran’s possession according to authorities was a magazine-fed semi automatic assault pistol, with an extended magazine attached, which is illegal to own in California. The community and authorities are left traumatized and confused by the attack, with many questions yet to be answered.

The second attack which occurred on Monday in California, left at least seven fatalities and one critically injured. At 2:22pm authorities were alerted to a shooting in 2 separate areas approximately two miles apart. The suspect was identified as 67-year-old Chunli Zhao, with authorities believing that he acted alone. “This is a devastating tragedy for this community and the families touched by this unspeakable act of violence,” San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus said Monday night during a news conference. - CNN

What are we doing to provide support during these unimaginably tough times?

The US has seen 38 mass shootings this month alone, according to the Gun Violence Archive (a mass shooting is considered when four or more people have been killed.) This number is already astronomically high and whilst we are hoping that authorities and above are doing all they can to reduce this, at TyTek Medical we are here to advocate for anti-gun violence. The ways in which we do this, are making sure we provide education and confidence in basic first aid skills, including bleed control.

Bleeding out is one the highest causes of pre-hospital fatalities

When it comes to a shooting attack, it can happen anywhere. As of recently, shootings have been occurring in schools, dance studios and places of worship. Therefore, it’s absolutely key that we provide point-of-injury bleed control supplies to prevent fatalities in these scenarios. Our bleed control stations can be installed in many different areas which have been named above, and contain kits that can be detached and opened quickly. Every second of the Platinum Ten minutes counts (highlighted in recent medical research as the key time in which you can save lives) and this kit will help you to help others.

It’s our mission to provide user-friendly live saving supplies for any skill level, as you never know when you will be witness to such a scenario. If you would like to find out more on how to acquire our bleed control pouches, or install a bleed control station in your business, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’d be more than happy to help. We hope that we can provide communities with a sense of relief that first aid supplies are easily accessible, in order to save a life.
