Strength, reliability, fairness, and good conscience - we welcome in the Chinese New Year and the year of the Ox

This Friday, February 12th, marks the start of Chinese New Year and we thought it couldn’t be a better time to celebrate our 20 year working relationship with our friends in China. We want to wish our friends in China a very Happy New Year!

Chinese New Year is known as the Spring Festival and is the most important festival in the Chinese calendar. Celebrations last for the first fifteen days of the Chinese lunar calendar, which on the Western calendar begins sometime between January 21 and February 21, varying from year to year.

Traditions include a big clean in your home to sweep away the bad luck from the past year; decorating your home with red decorations as it is a symbol of good luck; a visit to the Chinese temple to pray for good luck; and firecrackers are set off when the New Year begins as the loud noises are thought to scare the bad spirits away. And of course, plenty of traditional Chinese dishes are consumed on New Year’s night.

According to the Chinese zodiac, each year is associated with one of 12 zodiac animals. 2021 is the year of the Ox, the second animal in this 12-year rotation.

People in China believe that the year in which someone is born can influence personality traits, along with many other aspects of a person’s life. Strong, reliable, fair, and conscientious - these are just some of the personality traits said to be bestowed on people who are born the year of the Ox.
